IMPORTANT – SAND IS NOT INCLUDED
The sand used in the machine must be purchased separately. Sand collected directly from beaches, construction sand or sand from an unknown source should not be used.
For proper operation, we recommend using sand specifically intended for sand coffee preparation, commonly sold as coffee sand, fine quartz sand or fine silica sand suitable for this type of equipment. This type of sand is selected and processed to provide a fine and consistent grain size and is generally supplied clean, dry and sifted.
When searching for suitable sand in Brazil, you can look for terms such as “areia para café na areia”, “areia para máquina de café turco”, “areia de quartzo fina para café” or “areia de sílica fina para café”. The sand purchased should be specifically recommended by the supplier for use in sand coffee machines.
The sand should be fine, clean, dry and sifted, and free from stones, debris, organic matter, metal, glass, chemical residues and other impurities. Using unsuitable sand may negatively affect heat distribution, create unpleasant odors and compromise the operation and service life of the equipment.
The sand acts as a thermal medium: once heated by the lower heating element, it retains and distributes heat around the cezve, allowing for more gradual and uniform heating. This characteristic is one of the main reasons why sand preparation has traditionally been valued for Turkish coffee.
